ELECTRIFIED POWERTRAINS
MILD HYBRID
The Mild Hybrid powertrain, also known as MHEV, harmonizes combustion engine performance and EV technology. It uses energy recovered by a compact lithium-ion battery in low impact driving scenarios to reduce CO2 emissions. Mild Hybrids are suited for drivers who want the efficiency benefits of electrification, but love the traditional performance of fuel-powered engines.
PLUG-IN HYBRID
Seamlessly weaving together the best of combustion and electrification, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) house a larger battery than that of an MHEV, meaning it can be charged to travel longer distances on electricity alone. With the control of switching between an efficient gasoline engine and pure battery power, drivers can count on an impressive performance at higher speeds and on lengthier journeys.
BATTERY ELECTRIC
Battery electric vehicles, more commonly known as EVs, rely solely on the electric power from an onboard battery. EVs are charged via an electric power source, producing zero emissions on quieter drives with instant acceleration. A more compact battery in our flagship MX-30 EV has a significantly reduced impact on the environment while providing the right amount of range for everyday drivers with less demanding commutes.
TYPES OF CHARGERS
Mild Hybrid EVs (MHEVs) do not need to be plugged in to charge like Plug-in Hybrid EVs (PHEVS) or Battery EVs (BEVs). No matter how quickly or how often you need to charge your PHEV or BEV, there are levels of chargers that suit your driving needs at home and on the go.
Level 1 Charger
LEVEL 1 CHARGER
AC 120 VOLTS
CHARGE TIME: ~ 4-8 KM/HOUR
This charger is included with your vehicle to deliver power using a dual level charge cord capable of charging at both levels 1 and 2. By simply plugging your vehicle’s charger into a standard household outlet, Level 1 charging is as easy as charging your smartphone. Level 2 charging, however, requires professional installation of a 240-volt outlet.LEVEL 2 CHARGER
LEVEL 2 CHARGER
AC 240 VOLTS
CHARGE TIME: ~ 40-80 KM/HOUR
Level 2 chargers offer faster charging speeds while still drawing AC power from the grid. These allow owners the convenience of charging quickly and on demand at home or at charging stations on the go. For home use, Level 2 chargers require professional installation of a 240-volt outlet and are dependent on a building’s age and power grid. Consult a professional electrician before installation.LEVEL 3 CHARGER
LEVEL 3 CHARGER
DC
CHARGE TIME: ~ 160+ KM/HOUR
Level 3 chargers are the fastest way to charge your EV. These aren’t typically installed in residential areas because they use DC power, but can be found in public or commercial charging stations in charging networks across Canada.LEVEL 1 CHARGER

An engine supported by an electric motor produces instant acceleration, enhanced environmental performance and an effortless power transfer between combustion and electricity. Plus, MHEVs provide a greater return on fuel in stop and go traffic for more eco-conscious city driving.
POWER GENERATION
A regenerative-friction brake coordination system generates the maximum amount of energy within the range of how far the driver depresses the brake pedal. Then, the M-Hybrid Boost system activates while idling and at lower speeds to reduce emissions when internal combustion engines aren’t as efficient.
SEAMLESS USER EXPERIENCE
From natural posture seating and enhanced driver displays, to each performance-focused feature within reach, Mazda MHEVs deliver a sense of driving power that remains an extension of you. Seamlessly connect you to the world around you to move in a way that suits your sensibilities, with you in full control.
FULLY INTEGRATED DRIVE SYSTEM
Each part of the MHEV drivetrain was developed in unison to work in harmony with you. The result of a motor placed between the engine and transmission is a seamless transition from EV power to combustion engine performance, providing a high-quality drive from the moment you press the accelerator.
PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (PHEV)
A plug-in hybrid is a more advanced iteration of a traditional hybrid drivetrain. Although traditional hybrids function similarly to a PHEV, the option to plug in and charge results in a dedicated EV driving range, allowing drivers to travel considerable distances on battery power alone.
THREE WAYS TO JOURNEY
The PHEV is designed to achieve greater environmental performance without compromise. By seamlessly switching between pure electric, hybrid and pure engine driving modes, the PHEV is capable of both short zero-emission trips and sprawling journeys without the worry of typical EV range issues.
CHARGE MODE
Charge mode allows the driver to set the level of the PHEV’s battery to a preferred State of Charge (SoC), so that when the battery might fall below that percentage, the engine will automatically activate to charge the battery. While driving above the chosen SoC, the PHEV will continue to operate in standard hybrid drive mode.
A REGENERATIVE DRIVE
The optimally positioned PHEV battery can be charged by simply plugging it into an external power source. Regenerative breaking, however, charges your battery on the go, extending your range while you drive.
BATTERY ELECTRIC VEHICLE (BEV)
A fully electric vehicle typically accrues lower overall maintenance costs vs gasoline engine vehicles. EVs focus on travelling even greater distances on battery power alone, providing zero emissions without compromising on performance and the feature comfort drivers expect from their Mazdas.
WAYS TO CHARGE
The ChargePoint network makes it easier than ever to switch from fuelling to charging. A Level 1 charger that draws power from the grid is included with your EV, while Level 2 chargers can be purchased for professional home installation. ChargePoint offers access to Level 2 and 3 chargers in public for faster charges on the go.
DRIVING DYNAMICS
The all-new, innovative e-Skyactiv EV electrification technology is especially engineered to enhance the human-centric driving dynamics that only a Mazda can produce. This, plus beautifully crafted and harmonized vehicle architecture, provide a smooth, connected and confident drive that puts you in full control of the road ahead.
PERFECTLY BALANCED
The Mazda Vehicle Battery is strategically mounted under the floor and arranged with a thin cooling system to help keep the battery at optimal performance temperatures. Its thoughtful placement also supports the vehicle’s low centre of gravity to create a more grounded and controlled feeling on the road.
